On Sunday October 25th some members of the Dance Fever Charlotte competition dance team attended the SHOCK dance intensive workshop at the Blake Hotel in Charlotte.  Students in attendance included (L to R in picture above):  Cassie Carson, Allison Carte, Siri Pettersen, Elizabeth Fuller, Megan McDonald, Brenna Gilliam, Kori Smith, Morgan Britton, Savannah Everhardt, April Carte, and Jessica Hall.  The SHOCK is a nationally touring one-day intensive dance workshop that features classes with famous dancers & choreographers.

The workshop ran from 8am to 4pm with one hour classes in various dance forms by guest instructors.  This year’s workshop included classes by Chris Judd, Tina Cyphert, Jason Luks, and Melody Lacayanga.  All of the instructors taught classes in all age groups.  For those unfamiliar with the teachers, here is a quick summary:

Chris Judd – dancer with Michael Jackson on the Dangerous and History tours and Jennifer Lopez’s x-husband and head dancer

Tina Cyphert – principal dancer with Debbie Allen on the Academy Awards for 5 years

Jason Luks – crowned adult World Tap Champion at age 16

Melody Lacayanga – top female dancer on Season One of “So You Think You Can Dance”

In addition to the student classes, the SHOCK workshop featured dance classes in Charlotte for the dance teachers who were in attendance.  There was a room devoted to “teachers only” where they got personal attention from the star instructors.  Our staff who attended were especially excited to take a class by Chris Judd.  In addition to his connection to Michael Jackson, Chris was the main choreographer for Jennifer Lopez.  Jennifer liked him so much that she married him.  They are no longer married, but Chris has still got the moves.  Here is a picture of Chris with our adult students & studio staff:

The SHOCK was a great event – Dance Fever will put it on the calendar for next year!
